Festive Reasons to Visit Lompoc this Holiday Season!

Festive Reasons to Visit Lompoc this Holiday Season!

Lompoc shows off its festive side during the holiday season, when visitors will find holiday concerts, historic events, fun outdoor activities, plus an opportunity to relax while wine tasting or browsing for unique holiday gifts at the specialty stores throughout town.

 

Holiday Events

Sip LompocNovember 24, 2017 – 1 to 4 pm

Skip the Black Friday shopping hustle and bustle, and instead leisurely sip wine with friends and family while enjoying the hospitality of over a dozen tasting rooms in town.  Sip Lompoc tickets ($40) include an exclusive Sip Lompoc logo glass, a reusable logo wine tote, Sip Lompoc bucks and more!  This fun, day-after-Thanksgiving event is presented by the Hispanic Business Committee of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Las Posadas at La Purisima Mission – December 16, 2017 – 2 to 4 pm

The pristine and historic La Purisima Mission takes visitors on a journey back in time during the holiday season with the annual Las Posadas event.  Join in as costumed docents lead the Las Posadas procession through the mission grounds with songs in Spanish and English.  The tradition dates back over 400 years in Mexico and reenacts the biblical journey of Mary and Joseph seeking shelter in Bethlehem.  Parking is $6.

 

Holiday Concerts

Lompoc Pops Orchestra:  Flavors of the Holiday – December 3, 2017 – 7 pm

Favorite holiday classics will be performed by the Lompoc Pops Orchestra in the “Flavors of the Holiday” concert taking place at First United Methodist Church in Lompoc. The ensemble, comprised of professional and semi-professional musicians plus talented music teachers, brings a hometown flavor to this not-to-be missed musical event.  Tickets are $20.

Founding Day Remembrance Celebration at La Purisima Mission – December 8, 2017

Founding Day Mass, 12 Noon; Founding Day Concert, 7 pm

Founding Day recognizes the date La Purisima Mission was established back in 1787. Festivities include a noon-time Mass in the historic church and an evening concert.  Illuminated lanterns lead the way to an enchanting musical performance at 7 pm, followed by fellowship and refreshments in La Sala.  Tickets are $6; advanced reservations are required.

 

Holiday Shopping

Bypass the big box shopping experience, and spend an afternoon in Lompoc, where you’ll find antiques and vintage goods, hand-crafted local gifts, musical instruments, local art, sporting goods and more.  Browse through A Little Something Special and More, filled with artisan gifts and hand-made local products. Find antique treasures at T & T Sweet Repeats, a 17,000-square foot emporium located in the heart of Old Town.

For one-of-a-kind vintage, shabby chic and rustic home furnishings, stop in The Maple Cottage. Local artwork is featured at Cypress Gallery, home to the Lompoc Valley Art Association.  At Lompoc’s full-service surf and skate shop, Surf Connection, buy boards, equipment, specialty apparel and super cool gifts.

 

Holiday Adventure

Take time to explore some place new this season and enjoy outdoor activities. Lompoc’s beautiful weather are ideal for golf, cycling, hiking and even sky diving. For the adventurous, SkyDive Santa Barbara offers a great way to relieve the holiday stress by jumping out of a plane! Visitors can take the leap with a professional guide on a tandem jump and get a one-of-a-kind thrill while admiring the awe-inspiring scenery below.

Or maybe it’s time for a golf getaway. Lompoc has two scenic courses to choose from, including championship course, La Purisima Golf Course.  For a scenic hike, head to the trails at La Purisima Mission State Historic Park.  The mission has 25 miles of hiking trails with the main trail winding up into the hills, providing spectacular views of the wilderness below.

 

Holiday Eats

Lompoc offers a tasty selection of one-of-a-kind, locally-owned restaurants including authentic Italian, Asian Fusion, Mexican, and Thai cuisine as well as wine bars and brew pubs. Just opened in October 2017 is a great option for holiday eats: Valle Eatery & Bar inside the brand new Hilton Garden Inn, featuring a California cuisine inspired menu, handcrafted cocktails, microbrew beers, and local wines. Featured items include beer battered Brussels sprouts, braised pork belly tacos, wood-fired pizzas, rib eye steaks, and slow smoked porketta/ . Other local favorites for a special meal include La Botte Italian Ristorante and Sissy’s Uptown Cafe.
