Founding Day recognizes the day La Purisima Mission was established on December 8, 1787 on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Events for this observation are:
Founding Day Mass – December 8 at noon
A mass will be held at noon to celebrate the founding of the mission. The public is invited to attend. No reservations are required.
Founding Day Evening Concert – December 8 at 7:00 pm
Many lanterns lead the way to an evening of candlelight and music observing the anniversary of the founding of La Purisima Mission in 1787. Enjoy a musical performance in the setting of the historic church by candlelight. After the performance, guests are invited to La Sala to enjoy fellowship and refreshments. Tickets are $6 each and are advance purchase only by online. Tickets are also available at the mission in the Visitors Center by check or cash. Attendance is limited to 6 years or older. The show will go on in rain or moonshine. The church is not heated so layers are recommended. To enhance the viewing and listening pleasure of everyone, all photography and recording of the performance is discouraged.
