5 Family-Friendly Things to Do this Summer in Lompoc, CA

Family Fun in Lompoc

Looking for something fun to do with your family this summer?

Plan a trip to Lompoc, and discover someplace new, away from the hustle and bustle of big city attractions. The weather is pretty great all year round in Lompoc, and in summer, it’s an especially welcoming place to escape the inland heat. Coastal breezes cool the Lompoc Valley, where temperatures average the low to mid 70’s during the day.

Located just three hours north of Los Angeles along California’s Central Coast, Lompoc is a friendly, low key city with plenty of unique, family-friendly activities to enjoy.

Here’s a look at five things you can do with your kids this summer in the sunny city of Lompoc:

  1. Children’s Mission Life Day

Show your kids what life was like before cell phones and gaming consoles. Take the family to La Purisima Mission State Park, where they can experience hands-on activities that mimic those from the 1820s when the mission was home to the Chumash people and Spanish settlers.

  2. River Bend Bike Park

You can visit a park anywhere, but a designed, off-road bike park? That’s pretty unique. Pack your bikes and helmets and hit the trails. Open from sunrise to sunset, River Bend Bike Park has designated areas for different skill levels. You’ll find dirt paths and jumps ready for riding.

Built and maintained by Lompoc locals, the park is truly a communal space where kids and parents can enjoy off-road biking.

    Activity details:

    Open daily, weather permitting

    Free admission; unsupervised park

    On-site restrooms and picnic tables

  3. Lompoc Open Streets

Encourage your kids to enjoy the outdoors while roaming the streets of Old Town. During the Lompoc Open Streets event, vendors and family-fun activities fill the streets – rather than cars.

On August 3, bring your bike and skateboards and ride around the area, enjoy live music, play games, and participate in family wellness activities. The event is held in conjunction with the Friday Old Town Market, so there’s plenty to see and do!

    Activity details:

    August 3, 4 pm to 8 pm

    Cost: Free

Spend the day frolicking in the sand, surfing fishing, hiking, and snapping photos with your family. Have lunch at the Jalama Beach Grill, where the Jalama Burger is the known staple. Tourists have made the trip to the beach for the burger alone; so don’t pass up a stop to this iconic eatery.
