Farm & Ranch Tours

Authentic. Tranquil. One-of-a-kind. That’s how Lompoc visitors describe the area's farm and ranch tours.

Located on California’s central coast, the region is home to a 300-acre horse sanctuary, working ranches, farms, and fresh markets that should top every visitor’s itinerary. All of these picturesque stops offer breathtaking views of the Santa Ynez River valley. The rolling hills, vast open space, and mediterranean climate call to many.

The farms and ranches dotting the valleyside are ideal destinations for people looking to avoid crowds, long lines, and adrenaline-pumping activities. Instead, you’ll find small tours that lead you through lavish lavender fields, usher you to hilltops to see wild horses roam free, or seat you at family tables to enjoy fresh, farm-to-table cuisine.

Ground yourself in Lompoc

The Santa Rita Hills Lavender Farm is a boutique, family-owned farm in the Santa Rita Hills just outside of Lompoc. With a sea of vibrant purple plants welcoming you, the farm sells soaps, culinary sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Visitors can also sign up for lavender wreath-making classes or learn how to distill lavender into an essential oil.

With majestic oak trees and a sprawling vineyard, Hidden Canyon Ranch is a great locale to shed the stress of the big city. Take a 90-minute walking tour of the grounds where you’ll hear about everything from planting and harvesting to composting and wine-making. You’ll visit the animals and see the fan-favorites: mini donkeys.

Dare 2 Dream Farms is a family-owned farm that raises free range chickens. You can stop by for a tour, pick up eggs for a truly amazing breakfast, or attend a farm-to-table event. You’ll sit in a lush outdoor garden and enjoy a handmade meal, chat with friends, and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Arrange a private tour at the Return to Freedom Wild Horse Sanctuary. Perched atop a hillside, you can snap rare pictures of horses racing through the valley. The area is home to 400 wild horses and 29 burros who are free range animals with unencumbered spirits. Learn about the horse’s habitat, their bonds, and how you can help the nonprofit provide for them.

A visit to Lompoc isn’t complete with touring a farm or ranch. The tours offer a glimpse of farm life, pristine views of the Golden State’s central valley, and rich experiences that you won’t find in an urban jungle. Book your tour today!
