Point Sal Overlook

The highly rated Point Sal Overlook trail in Point Sal Beach State Park is a 10 mile round trip hike with breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean below. The combination of well-maintained paved fire and dirt road is surrounded by seasonal wildflowers with soaring wildlife like hawk and sea sponges, seals and other marine wildlife near the beach.

Point Sal Overlook is perfect for hikers ready for a challenge. The trail is rated as moderately difficult with very gradual gains in elevation and incline. Once at the end of the overlook, turn right at the trail end onto the beach trails for a visit to the pristine beach below. This area features giant sand dunes called the “Gaud Dunes” and many movies including “The Ten Commandments” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” filmed in this location.

Bring plenty of water and a picnic lunch for a very enjoyable afternoon!
