La Purisima Mission
Step Back in Time to the most extensively restored mission in California. La Purisima Mission State Park, founded in 1797, offers a fabulous opportunity to explore California’s heritage. In addition to the restored buildings, the nearly 2,000 acre park is home to 25 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, a Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall, and livestock.
La Purisima Mission State Historic Park is open from 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. La Purisima hosts over 200,000 visitors annually for recreation, tours, school programs, and special events. Self-guided tour maps are available for $1 at the entrance station, visitor center and gift shop. Parking is $6 per vehicle.
Free guided tours are offered at 1 pm, Wednesdays through Sundays, and holiday Mondays. The tour begins at the Visitor Center at 1 pm, where guides lead you through the historic buildings as they bring them to life with the stories of mission life and the people who once lived here. The 1 ½ hour tour covers approximately 1 mile thru rustic terrain, stairs and doorways.
The park frequently provides a re-creation of life here during the 1820s, with weaving, pottery making, candle making, blacksmithing, and leatherwork demonstrations during special living history events throughout the year.

Additionally, the La Purisima Mission hosts living history events throughout the year, where costumed docents present demonstrations and activities that recreate life back in the 1820s. View calendar for upcoming events.
