El Pastor Day at the La Purisima Mission

Farm fields

Translated, La Purisima means “Keepers of the Treasures of La Purisima”.  Founded in 1787 by Franciscan Padre Presidente Fermin Francisco Lasuen, the mission is a true treasure. Every month, the La Purisima Mission opens for an interactive day of fun for the whole family, with staff and docents dressed as figures from the period to re-create mission life during the 1800’s.

Enjoy demonstrations of weaving, pottery creation, blacksmithing, livestock production, leatherwork and candle making. The 2,000 acre park is a wonderful place for the family with 25 miles of hiking trails, a Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall, gift shop, picnic tables and livestock displays.
