Step Back in Time to the most extensively restored mission in California. La Purisima Mission in Lompoc CA, founded in 1787, offers a fabulous opportunity to explore California’s heritage. In addition to the restored buildings, the nearly 2,000 acre park is home to 25 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, a Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall, and livestock. Open 7 days a week!

Welcome to La Purisima Mission in Lompoc CALIFORNIA

La Purisima Mission in Lompoc is truly a must-see for history buffs and those looking for a serene and fascinating place to explore. The most fully restored and furnished of the 21 California Missions, La Purisima is also a California State Park with 25 miles of hiking trails to explore.

La Purisima Mission State Historic Park is open from 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. The Mission hosts visitors year-round for site-seeing, tours, hiking, school programs, living history events, weddings and more.

Free guided tours are offered at 1 pm Wednesdays through Sunday, and 11 am on Saturday. The tour begins at the Visitor Center, where guides lead you through the historic buildings as they bring them to life with the stories of mission life and the people who once lived here. The 1 ½ hour tour covers approximately 1 mile through rustic terrain, stairs and doorways.

Self-guided tour maps are available for $1 at the visitor center and gift shop. Parking is $6 per vehicle.

From March through August, on select dates, California State Parks staff and volunteers demonstrate activities that may include Chumash history and culture, tortilla making, candle making, spinning, and weaving, carpentry, pottery and blacksmithing.

TOURS

Free guided tours are offered at 1 pm Wednesdays through Sunday, and 11 am on Saturday. The tour begins at the Visitor Center and generally lasts 90 minutes. Self-guided tour maps are available for $1 at the visitor center, and gift shop.

SPECIAL EVENTS

California’s most restored and furnished mission, La Purisima is a bucolic setting for rustic weddings, wine tastings and other special events, surrounded by history and natural beauty. The Mission has four venues available for rent – the Main Church, the Padre’s Chapel, the historic Mission Garden, and La Sala – and can accommodate from 50 to 300 guests. MORE INFO

Coming Up

Getting to La Purisima Mission State Historic Park

To reach the Mission from the north or the south, take Highway 101 to Buellton. Take Exit 140A, for Buellton/Solvang - Highway 246 - and head west (a left turn from the northbound exit, a right turn if southbound).

Proceed west on Highway 246 for approximately 18 miles. On a slight downhill grade, you will pass the La Purisima Mission Golf Course on the right. After the golf course, take the second road, which is on the right.

Continue on Purisima Road for approximately 1 mile. The Mission entrance is on the right.
