Lompoc Bus Routes

COLT (City of Lompoc Transit) provides public transit service within the City of Lompoc, Mission Hills, Vandenberg Village, Buellton and Solvang. Service is available from 6:30 am to 8 pm on weekdays, and 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday. COLT does not operate on Sundays or on legal holidays

Lompoc Bus to Santa Barbara

COLT provides service to Santa Barbara with one round trip each Tuesday and Thursday. Vehicles depart Mission Plaza at 8:30 am and depart the Santa Barbara MTD bus depot at 3:30 pm. ADA service is also available on each trip. Reservations are required for ADA service; space is limited.

Lompoc Wine Country Express

COLT provides service to Buellton and Solvang through “Wine Country Express” with three round trips daily from Lompoc. Buses depart Mission Plaza at 7:25 am, 1:00 pm and 4:45 pm, arriving at Solvang in about 35 minutes with a stop at the Albertson’s in Buellton. The fare for this service is $2 each way. All buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and bicycle racks.

Slated to begin operations in early 2015, Wine Country Airlines will offer commuter flights from Long Beach and Bakersfield to/from Lompoc aboard a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, a nine-person propeller aircraft.

Amtrak

Surf Station near Lompoc is a regular stop on Amtrak’s Pacific Surf liner, which travels between San Luis Obispo and San Diego, along the California coast. The Surf Station is an unstaffed rail stop, 10 miles west of the city of Lompoc. There is no bus service between the Surf depot and Lompoc; taxi cab service may be arranged.

Flower Fields

From April through September and sometimes longer – you’ll see spectacular patches of colors as you drive near the farm fields of Lompoc Valley – Stock, Larkspur, Delphinium, Sweet Pea and Bells of Ireland along with other cut flower varieties are grown in abundance by local growers such as Ocean View Flowers.

When to See Them: The Flower fields generally bloom from April through September.

What Blooms: Stark, Larkspur, Delphinium, Queen Annes Lace, Bupleurum, Sweet Pea and Bells of Ireland are some of the varieties grown by local flower growers.

Where to See Them: The fields are scattered throughout the valley – many are located west of Old Town Lompoc from Floradale Ave. heading west to Union Sugar Ave, and then between the north street of Central Ave and the south street of Ocean Ave.

Visitor Guideline: The flower fields are privately owned – visitors and photographers are NOT allowed to walk into the fields. Please keep vehicles on paved roads when touring and taking photos, and do not walk (or allow your pets or children to run) in the flower fields.

Jalama Beach Park

Jalama Beach Park is a 30 minute drive from the city of Lompoc California. On this scenic drive, just outside of city limits, you’ll see working ranches and vineyards along with scenic vistas around every bend.

Jalama Beach is a popular place for picnics, surfing, kite surfing, bird watching, nature photography, fishing and camping. Many protected California native plants like sand verbena, saltbush, and sea rocket, grow within park boundaries.

Day use is $10 per vehicle. Dogs can enjoy the beach for $3 per dog per day. Campsites start at $30 per night, reservations recommended (see below).

The onsite Jalama Beach Grill is open  7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and early dinner. Be sure to try the famous Jalama Burger — some say it’s the best they’ve every tasted! Is it the secret sauce? Just the right seasoning on the meat? The shredded lettuce? Or perhaps the amazing view that makes the Jalama Burger so darn delicious? Come try one, and tell us what you think!

Jalama is subject to high winds and rough surf. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, however visitors swim at their own risk.

Beach Caves can be accessed along the sand – during low tide – about a mile north up the beach.

Spend the day at Jalama, then check into one of the nearby Lompoc hotels and motels.  While in town you can also enjoy wine tasting, site-seeing in Old Town Lompoc, a skydiving adventure, a tour of La Purisima Mission, and great local restaurants.

La Purisima Mission State Historic Park

Step Back in Time to the most extensively restored mission in California. La Purisima Mission State Park, founded in 1797, offers a fabulous opportunity to explore California’s heritage. In addition to the restored buildings, the nearly 2,000 acre park is home to 25 miles of trails for hiking and horseback riding, a Visitor Center and Exhibit Hall, and livestock.

La Purisima Mission State Historic Park is open from 9 am to 5 pm, seven days a week except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. La Purisima hosts over 200,000 visitors annually for recreation, tours, school programs, and special events. Self-guided tour maps are available for $1 at the entrance station, visitor center and gift shop. Parking is $6 per vehicle.

The tour begins at the Visitor Center at 1 pm, where guides lead you through the historic buildings as they bring them to life with the stories of mission life and the people who once lived here. The 1 ½ hour tour covers approximately 1 mile thru rustic terrain, stairs and doorways.

The park frequently provides a re-creation of life here during the 1820s, with weaving, pottery making, candle making, blacksmithing, and leatherwork demonstrations during special living history events throughout the year.

Get your history lesson, and take a hike, too! La Purisima is home to 25 miles of hiking trails over 2,000 acres, connecting to the back country. Most of the trails are sandy and lead through a mix of chaparral and oak and are home to a healthy population of wildlife. The Vista Del La Cruz Trail starts right behind the Visitor’s Center and leads up to the cross on the hill overlooking the Mission, about a half mile round trip. Dogs allowed. Gate entrance fee. Ocean Beach Park & Estuary

Bird-watchers and nature photographers flock to this destination, where all kinds of migratory sea birds can be seen. Take Highway 246 to the coast, turn right on Ocean Park Road. The park is open year-round – you see the river, estuary and railroad bridge – but access to the beach is closed spring and summer for the Snowy Plover nesting season.

Please note that access to the beach is closed to the public from March 1 through September 30 due to the Snowy Plover nesting season.
