Lompoc, California is the place to be for the NASA launch of the Landsat 9.
The launch is slated for September 16, 2021 from Vandenberg Space Force Base. A joint effort between the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Landsat Program has been dubbed “a cornerstone of our Earth-observing capability” by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. And for very good reason. Data delivered to Earth by Landsat satellites are used to detect and measure land cover and land-use change, the health of various ecosystems, water availability, and more.
The launch date and time are subject to change due to technical or weather issues.
The official public viewing place for the launch is at Lompoc Airport, 1801 N H St, Lompoc, CA 93436
